Types of Diabetes

A group of diseases that results in too much sugar in the blood (high blood glucose)


Type 1 Diabetes

  • A chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.
  • It typically appears in adolescence.
  • Common in more than 1 million/year.

Type 2 diabetes

  •  A chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose)
  • The body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or resists insulin.
  • Common in 10 million cases per year

Gestational diabetes

  •  A form of high blood sugar affecting pregnant women.
  • More than 1 million / year.

Genetic/other types

  • It occurs due to undergoing steroid medicine/ any pancreatic endocrine disorders.

Normal values

    Normal fasting- 100 mg/dl

    After food (2 hrs) - 140 mg/dl (below)
