Custom Insoles vs Ready-Made Insoles: Which Do You Really Need?

Custom Insoles vs Ready-Made Insoles: Which Do You Really Need?

Walk into any pharmacy or search online and you will find "orthopedic insoles" from ₹199. A custom insole costs much more. Is it worth the difference?

The honest answer: it depends on your feet. Many people do well with a good ready-made insole. Others keep struggling with pain until they get one made for their own foot.

What is the difference?

Ongoing pain, foot shape problems

When a ready-made insole is enough

  • Your feet feel tired after long hours of standing, but there is no real pain
  • You want extra cushioning in sports or work shoes
  • Your feet are of a normal shape, with no major arch problem

Choose one with a cupped heel and gentle arch support, and replace it when the cushioning flattens.

When you should consider custom insoles

  • Heel pain or plantar fasciitis lasting more than six weeks
  • Flat feet or very high arches causing pain or fatigue
  • Diabetes, especially with calluses, numbness or a past ulcer
  • Knee, hip or lower back pain where a foot examination shows poor alignment
  • One foot different from the other, or uneven wear on your footwear
  • Ready-made insoles have not helped, or feel uncomfortable

How custom insoles are made at HappyWalk

  1. Consultation. Our doctor or physiotherapist asks about your pain, work and daily activity.
  2. 3D foot scan. A scanner records the exact shape of both feet.
  3. Gait analysis. We see how you stand and walk, and where your feet take the most pressure.
  4. Design and milling. Your insoles are designed from the scan and CNC-milled in our in-house unit.
  5. Fitting. We fit them into your footwear and check comfort.

What do custom insoles cost in India?

Custom orthotics in India commonly range from about ₹3,500 to ₹14,000. At HappyWalk, custom CNC-milled insoles cost ₹3,999 for adults and ₹2,999 for kids, with the consultation free.

Compare that with buying ready-made insoles every few months that never quite fit. For ongoing pain, the right insole the first time often costs less in the long run.

Getting used to custom insoles

  • Wear them for 1–2 hours on the first day, then increase daily.
  • Most people are comfortable wearing them all day within one to two weeks.
  • Mild awareness of the arch is normal at first. Sharp pain is not, so come back for an adjustment.
